PURPOSE

Assists certified drivers by assembling load deliveries and preparing trucks for delivery to customer job site. Provides delivery site support. As a CDL trainee, associate is responsible for performing previously assigned job duties while building product knowledge and familiarity with vehicle operation and safe driving procedures. Responsible for learning company, state, local and DOT regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs load-building, and learns how to determine the appropriate weight, composition, and placement of load based on customer order and capacity of delivery vehicle to ensure load is balanced and safe for hauling.
  • May drive non-CDL company vehicles and deliver product to customer job site. Maintains log entries, performs vehicle inspection, and adheres to safety/compliance regulations. Takes all precautions to protect the product and the customer's property.
  • Validates loads against customer invoice to ensure the correct materials and the quantity of materials are accurate.
  • Assists with unloading the truck at the delivery site and interfaces with customers in a positive, professional manner.
  • Attends required training courses, completes assignments, and prepares for driver certification assessments.
  • Learn hand held device tracking procedures and understand the importance of compliance with DVIR and HOS.
  • Operate a Forklift or non-motorized material handling equipment to load and off load materials to designated areas.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to learn all aspects of Driver duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

High School Diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and clean driving record and a minimum of one (1) year BFS work experience. Must be able to obtain a Forklift certification. Must demonstrate a good work ethic, be able to pass a MVR report, obtain a DOT medical card, and have management support in order to qualify for company paid CDL training courses.

  • Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds frequently and on occasion may be required to lift and carry, with assistance, up to 200 pounds.
  • May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing or kneeling.
  • Must be able to physically operate delivery vehicles (climb up and down into cab, twist torso for 360-degree visibility, use arms to operate controls, etc.).
